Paul said, "I decided to know nothing among you except
Jesus Christ and him crucified."
You begin to understand everything else,
once you decide to know nothing except.

Christian Education, 9 a.m.
In April 2016, the Zion building on South 27th street was damaged by a fire. We had just completed a building project, adding several new classrooms and a mini-gym.
Restoration work has been slow, but we are finally able to resume meeting in our building. We are back in the worship hall, and we have enough space for a full schedule of Christian education and other activities.
Come and see.
Transformed by grace.
Poured out for others.
Zion is committed to the historic, orthodox and evangelical faith. For instance, we regularly use the Apostle's and Nicene Creeds in our worship service. Our worship includes both contemporary songs with an acoustic accompaniment, and hymns with a pipe organ. We kneel for corporate confession, and have weekly communion. We preach and teach the Bible as the Bible, so you don't need any insider knowledge to understand what's going on.
There are lots of different kinds of churches. Zion is a medium-sized church that handles church growth by planting new congregations rather than becoming ever larger and larger. We currently have between three and four hundred attenders each Sunday.
Three Fellowships. We cultivate a smaller-church feel by organizing the congregation in three "Fellowships", each with its own Elders and Deacons. The Fellowships meet during the education hour on Sunday morning, and in addition to the week's lesson, they coordinate fellowship and service activities. The Fellowships connect people with weekly Bible studies, prayer groups, service and mercy opportunities, and social events. It is hard to feel like you belong until you find ways to serve and connect personally. Our North, Central, and South Fellowships are the place to start.

Where You Belong
It's easier to find your place once you get to know some people. We don't want to spend our effort promoting programs. We want to encourage relationships. So though we do have a selection of activities for men, women, youth, and children -- Bible studies, diner lunches, ski trips, seminars, hiking trips, retreats, teas, camps, picnics ...), we're not pushing our programs, we're working to build a living community.
No Typical Members
The Apostle Paul is very clear about how the church is constituted: "there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, in all." That means there can be exactly one table where everyone is called to come and share the Lord's supper. Zion is determined to have no "look like us" test. The only way we must be alike is that we all alike confess our need of a savior, and we all alike look to the cross of Christ.
