Deacons
“Deacon” is the Greek word used in the Bible for “Servant.” The office of Deacon is filled by men who are entrusted with special responsibilities for service in the church. These services include management of the physical and financial possessions of the church, as well as implementation of ministries of mercy.
The Zion deacons are organized in six ministry areas, with a lead deacon in each area. The ministry areas are Community Needs (mercy ministry), Congregational Care (mercy ministry), Finance, Helps, Building (property), and Grounds (property). Lead deacons for each ministry area are listed below.
Dwight Bender Dwight has been a deacon since 2006. He is married to Ann and they have four daughters: Breanna, Courtney, Emily, and Moriah. Dwight serves as the Lead Deacon in Helps ministries.
Paul Brauning Paul was ordained as a deacon in 1992. He is married to Janna and they have three children: Dana, Seth, and Kayla. Paul serves as Lead Deacon in ministry relating to the Gounds at Zion.
Jim Gage Jim was ordained as a deacon in 1988. He is married to Suzanne and they have five sons: Taylor, Alex, William, John, and Sam. Jim serves as the Lead Deacon in areas relating to Finance.
Rob Hotz, Chairman. Rob has been a deacon since 2006. He is married to Marianne, and they have five children: Annie, Robbie, Matthew, Calvin, and Sarah. Rob serves as Lead Deacon in Congregational Care ministries.
Jon Jonson Jon has been a deacon since 2006. He is married to Jessica and they have three daughters. Jon serves as the Lead Deacon for ministries relating to Community Needs.
Scott Nelson Scott has been a deacon since 1994. He is married to Terri and they have three children: Cassie, Brett, and Brooke.
Paul Reiter Paul was ordained as a deacon in 1996. He is married to Kristen and they have two children. Paul serves as Lead Deacon in ministry relating to the Zion Buildings.
Pete Tompkins Pete has been a deacon since 1996. He is married to Dawn and they have three children: Ethan, Austin, and Michaela. Pete is on a leave of absence untill January, 2010.
Scott Weldon Scott was ordained as a deacon in 2010. He is married to Michelle and they have two children.
Mike Wittmann Mike was ordained as a deacon in 2010. He is married to Amanda and they have three children.
