Email from Jack Way to original building committee (6/14/07)
Status of Demolition, Zion
This e-mail is to update you on the status of the demolition of the Zion church building. Kelli [Kerns] and I spent the day there, Kelli pointing out what was worth saving and me telling the demo super what to take out. Due to Kelli’s persistence (Zion owes her a big thank you and more) a considerable number of items were saved - all of the furniture from the coffee room - most of the plastic play items from the nursery - stained glass windows -children chairs, the bell, etc. etc. These items were taken to a warehouse and cleaned by people from the congregation. Most of the things are like new again and ready to use. There are a few items to remove tomorrow morning and then it is ready for the wreaking ball which could start around noon. We found a time capsule in the corner stone. It is a sealed copper box to be opened later. Stand by for this opening. The demolition will now take place over the weekend to be completed by Sunday evening. A fenced hole will be left for future use. The Mason house will go also. A pile of bricks will be left in the parking lot for anyone who wants a brick and to build a memorial in or near the new church. Some architectural sandstone items will be preserved for possible future use in a new structure.
